Overall the Emerald Hills Course was in great
shape, but the layout is a bit lacking at times.

With a price tag of $125 prime time rate plus tax, the Emerald Hills course isn't
bad value. We actually tee'd off at 3:30 so the price was a bit lower
at $95. Note that you don't get a cart included in that price as with
the Club at Bond Head.
The difficulty for this course was fair. The length wasn't too bad and
the greens were an average speed.
A little course knowledge goes a long way on this track since you cut
off some distance at times and knowing when you can get away with 3
wood or 5 wood vs. Driver can save you lots of strokes.
I rate this course difficulty at a "B".
I think that if the greens were a little more difficult I would likely
push my rating up to "A" as fairways were quite narrow at times making
some holes quite interesting.
The scenery at this course was pleasant. The course was surrounded by
trees, trees and more trees with a hint of a little water and ample
sand traps around the greens. I would rate this course as an "A" rating.
The green conditions were very good but lacked any real
speed. That aside, they were very smooth and true.
The greens did have a problem with receptiveness as on a few occasions
I hit some very good 52 degree irons only to have them release off the
green a good 20-25 feet.
Green consistency seemed to be an issue as well as some greens were
faster and visibly shorter than others.
An A rating for these greens is about right. It would not take much too
improve the rating for these greens since a trim would go a long way.
Fairway conditions were good but also seemed a bit long. The recent
rain may have caused them to grow excessively as the softness was
noticeable and fairway roll was rare.
Again an A rating was appropriate.
The clubhouse was an excellent facility much like Bond Head however the
service and food quality seemed much better and the outdoor patio
overlooking the 9th green of the Forest course provided superb
atmosphere. I think an A+ rating is appropriate for this clubhouse.
The layout was a little straight and boring at times maybe with a
gentle bend and of course trees lining each side. Aside from
some raised greens at the end of some of these holes, the course seemed
a little plain. I rate this course layout as a "B".
The practice facility at this course is quite unique. The putting green
is too small to accommodate the amount of traffic at the course and the
driving range is pretty small and out of the way.
A full practice facility is technically available. I have to give this
practice facility an A rating as it meets the minimum criteria.
Emerald Hills Course is a Club Link golf course in Ontario
just north of Toronto.
