Coppinwood is a private golf club so you will need to play with a
member but the guest fees is expected to be about $120 which includes
your range balls and a pretty nice gas golf cart. This price range
falls into the B rating category.
The difficulty for this course was off the charts. It was very
challenging. The slope is rated at 137 from the golds and it plays
tough. You really don't have a lot of space outside the fairways which
are average in size, but around the greens it seems like it was always
very tight. You'd better be on your game if you want to score well at
Coppinwood Golf Club. A+ rating for this course is about right.
Coppinwood really is a work of art. It uses the surrounding area
perfectly by mixing in elevation, sand, fescue and
some water and trees for background scenery. The shape of the holes,
bunkers and greens alone make this course a pleasureto play even in the
midst of wanting to break a few clubs over your knee. This course is
well deserving of an A+ rating for scener y.
The green conditions were as good as I've seen this year
anywhere. They were so smooth and true it gave me a very good
feel for the putting distance and allowed me to challenge the hole most
of the round. Even though the greens were pretty fast, they really
werea great speed that wasn't unfair. A+ rating for these
greens for sure.
Fairway conditions were excellent at Coppinwood. They were
pretty well trimmed and there weren't many divots. I think an A+ rating
for these fairways is appropriate also.
The clubhouse has a full bar/restaurant, locker room, pro shop but is
didn't seem to have banquet capible facilities. The look and feel of
the clubhouse itself is like a mansion in the English countryside. I
think an A rating is right for this area.
The layout was pretty much perfect. The designer, Tom Fazio, created an
amazing flow to the course going from bunker protection to elevation to
valley crossings and of course, all the fescue surrounding every hole.
It really seems that the course was designed so that you need to know
the course, as well hit tees shots on a slightly off line could mean
fescue or sand.
I'm not sure if cart is optional or not but walking Coppinwood would be
a challenge. Consider getting a cart. The course rating for the layout
is an A+.
Very good practice facilities, however the range was small and
very far from clubhouse. If you are running behind and only have 15min
before your tee time, you won't have enough time to hit any practice
balls.
Coppinwood Golf Club is a Tom Fazio designed course found in Uxbridge
Ontario, just east of Toronto.
