Cherry Downs Golf & Country Club is a
great course with a great layout. The
green conditions actually made the course more fun than usual since, as
they pride themselves on, Cherry Downs normal greens are Augusta-esque.
I
can personal attest that the normal green conditions are quite unfair
at times.

Cherry Downs prime time rate is $78 which includes your range balls.
This price range falls into the A rating category and it is incredible
value at that price since the course is really pretty top notch.
The difficulty for this course was lower than normal at "difficult but
fair". What typically makes Cherry Downs Golf Course so tough is their
"Augusta like" greens which are very sloped and extremely fast. Today
however the greens were not normal difficulty which dramatically
changed the toughness of the course. A rating for this course today.
Although not a total work of art, Cherry Downs uses the surrounding
area well. The course uses a great mix of trees, sand, water,
and even some elevation to make the course very beautiful to play. This
course is deserving of an A rating for scenery.
The green conditions were not up to their normal standard. They were
smooth in parts but were a little patchy on most greens since they took
a beating over the winter. The speed of the greens was still fast but
not the normal lightening speed. This actually made for a more fun
round since we could actually chip and putt and have a chance to stop
the ball. I have to give the greens a C rating as they were in less
than idle conditions.
Fairway conditions were short and in good conditions. I think an A rating for these fairways is appropriate.
The clubhouse at Cherry Downs has a full bar/restaurant, locker room,
pro shop and even a banquet hall however they are all fairly small and
dated. The clubhouse even looks a little rough on the outside so it
could probably use some updating. I think a B rating is right even
though it makes the criteria technically for an A.
The layout was pretty perfect for what the designers had to work
with. As mentioned in the scenery section, Cherry Downs Golf Course has a
great mix of trees, water and elevation due to the great layout
bringing them into play. The course really has good flow to it going
from bunker protection to elevation to valley/stream crossings and of
course some doglegging and snaking holes. The course rating for this
area is a A+.
As a note on practice facilities, Cherry Downs has a full 18 holes
executive course great for praticing your par 3 game.
